Story
Harusase Chiyaki, owner of the struggling used bookstore Kotatsu-dō, is on the verge of closing its doors in despair. A mysterious beautiful girl, Shinohara Ren, appears before him. She offers to help rebuild the bookstore in exchange for one thing: “marriage” to Chiyaki. Saying he needs to learn what family bonds truly are, she pressures him into it. Chiyaki, confused but pushed along, reluctantly accepts a contract marriage. And so begins a slightly comedic newlywed life with Ren — who is delightfully off-kilter from common sense — as Chiyaki slowly finds himself drawn to her.
Characters
Shinohara Ren ( 四ノ原 蓮 ) (CV: Torase Ogo (虎瀬がお))
A mysterious beautiful girl who appears before the despondent Chiyaki.
Rationalist. Her speech is direct and concise. She has extremely little emotional range and is quite bad at communication. She is always isolated and even believes that state is natural for her. Highly capable — the type who does her work perfectly. Rigidly bound by rules she’s made for the world and for herself. As a result, she’s weak when faced with irregularities. For the goal of “learning what a perfect family is,” she keeps the indecisive Chiyaki on a string.
“Hello. Starting today, I am your wife.”
Tōma Shinobu (遠間 忍) (CV: Tsukishiro Mahiru)
Runs a film-specialty used bookstore in the neighborhood of Chiyaki’s (千明) shop.
Was close with Chiyaki’s grandfather, the previous owner of Kotatsu-dō (炬燵堂), and has been looking after him ever since. Has a teasing, sardonic streak and is always making fun of Chiyaki. Despite her youthful appearance, she seems to be older than Chiyaki… or so it would seem.
This marriage is suspicious. Extremely suspicious. Inexplicable.”
